Review: Diabolik Lovers -More,Blood-

Completion date: November 20, 2025

Halloween is here so despite the warning from previous reviewers and my better judgement, I needed a game that wasn’t taxing on my brain cells so I started More Blood.

Recommended play order: doesn’t matter. You have to start from a Sakamaki first run. To get all the CGs you need to clear all 3 endings and the after story. Heaven Scenario does not give CGs and are extra scenes with the LI. I will not be covering heaven scenarios due to length.

Here is the guide I used. Conversely, you can also just use save/load to figure out the options yourself with the indicators. Max out affection from base scenarios. Vampire end = M options in all of Dark and Maniac, then only 07 in Ecstasy. Brute end = change the Ecstasy 07 to S. Manservant end = now change all of Maniac to S. Heaven scenario requires correctly choosing the key words in all stories. You can use the guide but I am starting to get the hang of picking the right terms; they’re usually fairly obvious.

Quicklinks/My play order:

Kanato > Subaru > Reiji > Laito > Ayato > Shu > Azusa > Yuma > Kou > Ruki // Final Thoughts

Art is great, voice acting is great, the monologues are great, some routes are more coherent than others and can actually be enjoyed like real otome routes. You know already if you are or are not this game’s intended audience, so proceed with caution.

Trigger warning: everything – abuse, abuse, abuse; self-harm

**SPOILERS INCLUDED IN THIS REVIEW**

Prologue: The story takes place after Yui arrived at the Sakamaki household, but did not choose any of the brothers. Instead she cohabits with them, who have a gentleman’s agreement to share her as the mutual blood supply. Yui has a dream and meets Karlheinz, who makes various biblical references, referencing Yui as “Eve”, saying she is an apple but she is “rotting”. Yui goes to school as usual one day, but faints on her way to school in the limo and sees Karlheinz again who says he’s grown impatient and will do something to “cleanse” his apple to stop her from rotting. Karlheinz then sucks on Yui’s blood. Yui wakes up and meets the Mukami brothers who are new transfer students, along with a new teacher at the infirmary that’s obviously Karlheinz. The Mukami brothers also call her Eve and seem to want to take her away from the Sakamakis.

After Yui goes home, a panicked Richter breaks in Yui’s bedroom noting that she no longer has Cordelia’s scent. From the first game, we know that Yui’s human body has Cordelia’s heart implanted, making her blood irresistible to the Sakamakis. Karlheinz always knew that Richter preserved Cordelia within a human girl’s body. He chose to ignore it until now – he needs Yui for a new mission and cannot allow Cordelia to take over her like in HDB, hence he intervened. The Sakamakis have a meeting and identify the Mukamis as a threat, despite them not being pure blood vampires like them. They decided that one of them will be Yui’s “protector”, without Yui’s consent or say in this process of course. They turn to Yui and ask who her choice is…

After clearing the first route of the game, when you go back to the prologue you will come across an option to sleep vs. venture outside. Choosing going outside will trigger a flashback of the four Mukami “brothers’” past.

Yui then gets kidnapped by the Mukamis and whisked away to their house. Basically the premise is that, Karlheinz turned those four human boys who tried to run away from an orphanage together into vampires. However, originally they are not supposed to be Adam. They are supposed to help one of the Sakamaki brothers become Adam to see Karlheinz’s Eden Project to fruition. If you go into one of the Mukami brothers’ routes, they will all realize they cannot physically become Adam, i.e. develop the urge for blood, but in the good endings if Yui loves them enough and chooses them, Karlheinz will basically look the other way and respect Yui’s choice. So… the whole setting is kind of pointless and only adds to drama and justification of more boys.

SAKAMAKI KANATO (CV: Kaji Yuuki)

We get to listen to more of Kaji’s English in this route when he sings Scarborough Fair… Nil Ado flashbacks to STOLIKE WHILE ZE IRON IZ HOT

I decided to start from Kanato because his route traumatized me the most from the base game. Rejet really tries to pair the best seiyuu with the most unhinged characters to test our love for our VA…

Starting on Dark got me right back in that Kanato PTSD. Kanato gets mad at the most random things and starts verbally and physically abusing Yui. Yui also meets Azusa who is Kanato’s rival in this game. Yui starts seeing Kanato’s past through dreams, how Cordelia screwed around with everyone including Richter and neglected Kanato as a child, who wanted mother’s affection. Even Teddy was one of the unwanted presents that was originally gifted to Cordelia, who was then given to Kanato. Instead, he chooses to treat Teddy as his most prized possession. He even committed self-harm because this is the only time Cordelia will pay attention to him, only she still chose to rush Karlheinz when he called.

Kanato is extremely possessive of Yui. He even creates a copy of Teddy called “Daddy” (I can’t even make this up 💀) who follows Yui around and reports her movements to Kanato 24/7. Azusa continues to harass Yui. However, for the first half Kanato takes all his anger out on Yui instead of Azusa and slut-shames her. We also get to hear Kaji crying in this route. Kanato is becoming more and more reliant on Yui’s blood, with him feeling anxious and uneasy when Yui is not around. He even at one point tries to cut himself and drink his own blood, but it tasted awful.

Just as Yui and I were starting to have a soft spot for this little devil, he uses his tears to lure Yui in to suck her blood, then mocks her for being naive and stupid, why did I even lol

Azusa is still relentless and wants to force Yui to leave with him. Azusa even throws Teddy into a stove, destroying it. Kanato finally loses it and beats his ass, with Yui being like please stop this is too much, earning his wrath after.

Kanato continues put Yui through the most insane shit-tests. If Yui won’t allow him to abuse her, then it’s because she doesn’t love him and must still have the hots for Azusa. Eventually, he starts telling Yui to demonstrate her love by dying for him and strangles her. We are playing Diabolik Lovers after all so Yui replies of course, as long as this makes you happy Kanato, I’m willing to die for you, just don’t harm other people, because she takes responsibility for Azusa destroying Teddy (???).

Kanato doesn’t actually kill her, saying he still needs her blood. He starts breaking down crying, asking what is wrong with him, and why he cannot live without Yui’s existence.

In the final story chapters of Ecstasy, Yui is saddened by Kanato pushing her away and decides to run away. She goes to the church and meets her “father”, vampire hunter Seiji. Seiji calls Yui a monster because he knows she has Cordelia’s heart, and wants to kill her. Kanato shows up and goes like only I have the right to kill Yui, you have no right to touch her. Seiji chases the two down with silver bullets designed to kill vampires.

Seiji fires a bullet but Azusa jumps out and blocks the shot, dying in the process. Azusa says it’s because he cannot become “Adam” so he wants to protect “Adam” and “Eve” as this is what “He” would have wanted… The rest of the Mukami brothers show up and tell Kanato and Yui to leave the premise, as to not let Azusa’s sacrifice go in vain… Seiji is somehow taken care of, with details not explained.

Vampire End:

Kanato takes Yui to his own castle where only the two of them live together, where Yui continues to make him many Teddys. Karlheinz writes to Kanato, but he burns the letters.

Kanato: I love you, Yui.

After Story: My god this was such a drag. I thought the story was never going to end. Yui is obsessed with making the perfect Teddy and neglects spending time with Kanato, who finally cannot bear it anymore and confesses that the only excuse he has to keep Yui by his side is by critiquing her Teddys and demanding a “perfect” Teddy. Yui reassures Kanato that even if she made the perfect Teddy, she would never leave Kanato’s side because she stayed for him.

Manservant End: Despite living with Kanato, Yui cannot forget Azusa and frequently visits his grave. Kanato finally has enough and buries Yui alive next to Azusa so she can reflect on who she really loves.

Kanato: Why don’t you stay here forever? Then you will realize who you really need: me or Azusa.

Brute End: Yui gets cremated with ashes placed in the new Teddy, Cordelia style. Now it feels right again. Yui/Teddy with be with Kanato forever. He will finally have a good night’s sleep.

SAKAMAKI SUBARU (CV: Kondou Takashi)

Subaru is the only son of Christa, who is Karlheinz’s third wife. Growing up, Subaru had to placate his mentally deranged mother, who loses her marbles whenever Subaru is not within the vicinity. Yet, when Subaru arrived at her side and tried to comfort her, she would push him away, taking him for Karlheinz, and say Subaru should have never been born, that he is ugly, filthy, impure. Subaru as a result, blamed everything on his father Karlheinz. Christa gave Subaru a silver knife since HDB and would constantly beg him to kill Karlheinz, but Subaru was too physically and mentally weak to do it.

I will go into Subaru route in more detail because it is much more coherent than Kanato’s. Subaru is a cute little albino lion who doesn’t know how to face his feelings for Yui. Even with how outwardly violent and prone to angry outbursts he is, Yui feels safe because he would never, ever lay a finger on or abuse her. This route is my introduction to Mukami Kou, and he sure left a lasting impression and something to look forward to in future routes.

Subaru asks why Yui picked him as her protector. Yui said maybe it’s because he seems like someone who could step up and actually protect her, unlike some of his other brothers. They go to school together, with some of Subaru’s fangirls badmouthing Yui in the corner, saying she is basic and not fit to have Subaru’s attention. Subaru yells at them to either come say these words to their face or shut up, but denies he is doing it for Yui’s sake. Yui then asks if Subaru likes girls at all (since he’s being mean to his fangirls), Subaru kisses her in the stairwell to show her that his attention always belongs to his “food” ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

After they go home, Yui tries to sneak out to get some sun. She is human after all. Subaru comes finds her. He is actually afraid she will get a cold outside, but again won’t say it in a straightforward manner.

The next day, Yui comes to pass on an invitation from Ayato and Laito to join them playing pool. Subaru gets pissed that Yui is running errands for other vampires and says he doesn’t want to join their childish game. Yui says well they also wanted me to pass on that, if you don’t go then they will play with me… Subaru becomes angry and decides to quite literally “mark” his possession with bite and kiss marks around Yui’s neck.

Yui goes to school and meets Kou, who is also an idol with his own fangirl club. Kou immediately comes to Yui and smooth talks her into sharing details about herself. The two become friends. Kou seems like a kindhearted, outgoing person. However, this is all a facade. Kou tries to touch Yui. Subaru finally jumps out from hiding (he’s been watching over her the whole time) and pushes Kou away. Kou doesn’t resist and instead complains to Yui how much Subaru has hurt him with excessive force.

Kou: Looks like these two are quite close… Fufu, all the more fun when I break them up…

Yui follows Subaru to the stairwell. Subaru tells Yui that Kou clearly has ulterior motives; she should not lower her guard with him. He tells Yui that she does not need to look at anyone else. “Since you chose me, then all you need to look at, listen to, and follow, is me!”

Yui runs into Kou at the library. Kou pretends to not care about Subaru hurting him the other day. Instead, he talks about Shakespeare and Othello. He calls Yui Desdemona and says her Othello is Subaru, who is constantly jealous of other “innocent” men (such as him) and suspecting her of infidelity. Yui isn’t sure what she and Subaru are at this point, so she denied Kou when he suggested her “boyfriend” was getting jealous. Kou gets up close and suggests maybe he has a chance then. Subaru appears and is actually jealous and angry. Kou leaves. Subaru then asks Yui is she enjoys talking to Kou more than with him.

Kou: Othello is a famous tragedy featuring Othello, who was a man over-suspecting his wife of infidelity.

An interlude and flashback of Subaru’s childhood memory is shown where Cordelia and Christa argued and bitch slapped each other in public over who Karlheinz’s favourite wife was. Weird, wasn’t Christa supposed to hate Karlheinz?…

Yui and Subaru talk at the balcony. Yui was so deep in thought Subaru thought she was staring at the ground and thinking of doing something stupid. Yui replied that she was just reminiscing about the old times, before she came to the Sakamaki household. Subaru mockingly says oh I bet your life was much better before. Yui says while life at this house is difficult, there are times when she appreciates having a big family (something she didn’t have living with her “father”), and especially meeting Subaru.

Subaru starts to crave Yui’s blood. One day, Yui signs out of class and goes to the infirmary due to lightheadedness from severe anemia. A concerned Subaru brings Yui food to help her recover, only the food was not too edible by human standards: cooked snake, fresh turtle blood, and crocodile claws… Yui tries to politely turn it down, but this angers Subaru who takes it personally. An exasperated Yui then says omg just let me rest a bit at home I will get better, so Subaru carries her in his arms and flies home together~

Another scene is Yui needs dance practice due to a test coming up. Subaru gets jealous that Yui would potentially practice with other guys, agrees to be her dance partner. In another scene, the two run into a lost puppy who takes an immense liking to Subaru, while Subaru is like nurrr I’m a lone wolf I don’t wanna be a Disney princess. Finally, Subaru sleeps in Yui’s lap while she studies in the library, only he wouldn’t stay still and plays with Yui, causing her to lose focus.

The teacher asks Yui to carry a lot of heavy papers to his office. While passing by the library, Yui hears Subaru and Kou seemingly having a normal conversation. Kou shares his upbringing with Subaru. Compared to Subaru who is a “rich boy” without any any threat to his life, Kou was initially human who went through hell (though not specified, I guess we have to wait till his route); even his right eye is an artificial one. He will not share who turned him into a vampire but we know it’s obviously Karlheinz. Kou says he would do anything in order to live; Subaru would not understand. Kou notices Yui and suggests that both he and Subaru help Yui carry the papers. Subaru runs away in rage instead because he’s used to being a lone wolf and doesn’t do things together with anyone else. Kou apologizes and offers to carry all the papers himself to the office so Yui can catch up with Subaru.

Subaru cannot explain his internal anger and frustration within him. He goes home and breaks everything, scaring all his brothers. Reiji demands Yui to “control” Subaru (lol). Kou continues to make the moves on Yui at school in order to provoke Subaru and make him appear mentally unstable compared to Kou who is so kind, warm, and friendly. Subaru feels insecure and starts thinking whether he should let go of Yui because she seems happier with Kou.

Subaru: Compared to Kou, I am so immature…

Subaru continues his rampage of destruction at home. Yui confronts him. Subaru explains he’s trying to distract himself from his increasingly intense urges to suck Yui’s blood. He then shouts at Yui that he’s always been alone all his life, and that she should leave him alone as well… because deep down, he is scared of hurting her.

In the shadows, Ruki and Kou discuss that “Adam” is starting to “awaken”. However, Kou says he will not give up. He, not Subaru, will be the one who wins “Eve” and her heart.

Yui goes to Subaru’s room and finds him asleep. She falls asleep beside him, holding his hand. He wakes up and finds Yui not letting go of him. He pushes Yui away again, telling her to go to Kou. Subaru says that he is only trouble for Yui and can hurt her if she doesn’t cut her losses now. A heartbroken Yui agrees to leave Subaru alone and starts thinking that Subaru really hates her.

Another of Subaru’s flashback is shown. He confronts Karlheinz and protects Christa. However, Christa slaps him and is in fact, madly in love with Karlheinz (yeah she’s just crazy….). Subaru does not know what to believe in anymore and feels like a clown. In his monologue, he says “I should have stayed alone by myself all this time.” He holds Christa’s knife to his chest, but does not have the courage to go through with it.

Kou continues to manipulate Yui when she decides to confide in him out of all people about her boy troubles; telling her that Subaru has other girls to suck blood from, hence has no more need for Yui. He tells Yui that if she would like, he can be her rebound and make her feel good.. Yui pushes him away. Kou cheerily tells her that he will not give up, and that it’s only a matter of time before Eve became his.

We have two more fluff scenes until Yui realizes that she cannot live without Subaru, and that Subaru was protecting her by distancing himself from her.

Yui: Even if you say so, I just can’t bring myself to go to another man…

Yui shares her feelings with Kou. Kou has a meltdown and yells at Yui that Subaru could literally kill her if she goes back to him. Yui replies even if that’s the case, she wouldn’t mind.

The camera pans to Ruki telling Kou to admit defeat – it’s clear that he has lost and will not become Adam. Kou says he will not give up yet. Ruki asks if Kou is seriously in love with Yui, then speculates the key for Adam to awaken lies within the “heart” (my understanding whichever vampire has Eve/Yui’s heart, will become Adam and awaken his desire for her). A dejected Kou says he feels like a clown; all he did was make Yui and Subaru become closer to each other. Ruki then says maybe this is what “He” wanted since the beginning.

Yui chases Subaru into the underground tunnels. Subaru tells Yui that all his life, he’s been confined in the same room with his mentally unstable mother; whenever his father came, he brought all of hell with him. Nobody understood him. Nobody cared about him. He deserves to be alone. Yui replies that she cannot watch Subaru suffer alone and resolves to stay by his side no matter what.

Kou makes a last ditch effort to force Yui to become his girlfriend. Here you have the option to actually kick him hahaha

Kou tries to force Yui in one last attempt. The two have a full on fist fight before Yui, with Subaru remaining standing. He then apologizes to Kou because he landed the first blow. The two make up and become bros I guess.

Subaru tells Yui about Christa and her twisted love towards Karlheinz. He vows to become a better person for Yui. Yui says she loves Subaru for who he is. He doesn’t need to change in the span of one day. Subaru then entrusts Christa’s silver knife to Yui, asking her to kill him if he goes berserk and treats her poorly. “If I have to die, I want to die by your hands.”

Somewhere in the distance, Karlheinz is satisfied that Adam and Eve have awakened. Together, they will create a new, powerful species… He then turns to Kou and says the Mukamis still have more tasks: to support and watch over Adam and Eve.

Beside the fountain, Subaru proposes to Yui and asks her to “never leave me alone again”.

Yui finally meets Christa, who is surprisingly intact this time. Christa apologizes for not being a good mother to Subaru, wronging him. She notes that he is a “gentle child” and asks Yui to take good care of her baby son. Yui happily accepts with Subaru being like (˶˃⤙˂˶) the entire time lol.

Vampire End: After exchanging some vows and a kiss (hosted by Kou), as well as congratulations from all three of Cordelia’s children, the two finally become married! What a gorgeous CG.

Manservant End: Yui gets captured by Kou who is so desperate for Eve he wants to “share” her with Subaru. However, Subaru kills Kou and accidentally impales Yui in the process. He then follows them in death.

Kou: Who said there could only be one Adam?

Brute End: Kou won the fight and keeps Yui in his dungeon. However, Yui’s love for Subaru stays strong so eventually Kou gives up and releases her back to the Sakamakis. While Subaru is happy to have Yui back, she feels she is too “tainted” with Kou’s scent to be with Subaru and commits suicide.

SAKAMAKI REIJI (CV: Konishi Katsuyuki)

Because we all deserve to see what a hottie he is under those glasses

I would have never imagined myself taking 500+ screenshots because Reiji’s route in MB ACTUALLY TELLS A GOOD STORY. He is redeemed in my eyes now compared to HDB. The writers tamed him down a lot compared to HDB. He is actually pretty gentle towards Yui. When he scolds her it’s actually just soft humiliation play. Thank god Konishi stopped doing that phlegm hacking thing when he voiced the blood sucking scenes (I wonder if fans complained lmao).

Chuunibyou? “I will take over this entire world…” aww little Reiji

We start with Reiji’s monologue about how he prides himself for being the son of Karlheinz. He views himself as superior to others, someone who does not become swayed by emotion and uses his brain. His mother Beatrix frequently praised Reiji for his smarts, but would always add that his intelligence would enable him to be a good “second-hand man” to Shu. Reiji was irritated to no end by this, because he believed he and his talents served a greater purpose far beyond carrying on the Sakamaki name or being anyone’s support.

Reiji really verbally abuses Yui for like the first 3 scenarios in Dark (out of the entire route), saying she is good for nothing. The meanest thing he’s said to her all game is after she tried cooking pasta for him, making her repeat “my cooking is worse than pig feed”, which is frankly very tame in Diabolik Lovers standards. He also cooks pasta properly for her afterwards and showers himself in Yui’s praise.

Reiji falls asleep with Ayato pranking him by stealing his glasses and leaving them with Yui. Reiji wakes up and calmly asks Yui if this was her idea. Yui honestly tells him that Ayato did it. Much to Cordelia’s children’s disappointment, Reiji accepts Yui’s explanation and says he knew she would not have the nerve to.

Reiji’s strive towards perfectionism continues in this route, only he has upgraded from Asian dad to Asian daddy. Yui has trouble with her math studies, so Reiji patiently tutors her all night under the guide of “my food cannot bring shame to the Sakamaki family or my name”. Yui becomes dokidoki over how big and manly Reiji’s hands are… As a result, Yui scores the highest mark in her class – only she only got 95 so Reiji makes her study more, lol.

Yui catches the cold and keeps coughing and sneezing at the dinner table. While vampires can’t catch viruses, they become annoyed at Yui and tell her to eat alone in her room due to “bad table manners”. Reiji catches up to Yui and gives her some lemonade he made.

Laito gets suspended from school for some stupid thing he did. Reiji is stressed and orders Yui to make tea for him. When Yui brings the tea to him but drops the cup and breaks it. Reiji then orders Yui to transfer the tea to him mouth-to-mouth. AND THEY KISS kyaaa

The Mukamis are all third-year like Reiji so Reiji keeps an eye on them. So far, none of them made a move on Yui yet. Reiji randomly ichaichas with Yui in the stairwell, drawing Yuma out of hiding. This was all part of Reiji’s plan. Reiji asks Yuma what exactly the Mukamis are after. Yuma says of course we come for Yui’s special blood.

Reiji: Finally, you come out of hiding.

However, Reiji says Yuma is hiding much more from him. It can’t be as simple as “oh her blood delicious and irresistible”. There is also bigger fish behind all of this; but they don’t know who. He then tells Yui to not get ahead of herself, as she is “good for nothing except her blood”.

Reiji: The most ugly sight in this world, is humans yearning for love…

Reiji finds Yui sweeping the common area. He asks her why the good deeds all in a sudden. Yui replies she reflected on what Reiji said to her earlier, that she realized she has to earn his acceptance.

In another scenario, Reiji scolds Yui for something trivial but in the end tells her as “punishment” she has to have tea with him. While he sips tea with her, he proposes to take Yui on a date.

For once I’m happy that Yui is genuinely happy and having a cozy time

The date… ends up in the Mukami household. Reiji meets all four brothers and speaks to their leader Ruki. He straightforwardly proposes that the Mukamis “collaborate” with him – to show his earnestness, he brings the “Eve” the Mukamis are after. Ruki says he did not expect this of “the second-born of Sakamaki”. Reiji tells him to stop calling him that, as this title irritates him; he then says he wishes to destroy the Sakamaki family. Ruki is amused by this progression of events, but ultimately turns Reiji down saying he cannot trust him right now. Ruki then says to him at least, Eve is not his “desire” but “mission”; he does not have any personal interest in Yui herself.

Thus concludes the Dark stories. We are taken to Reiji’s childhood again. Shu is the centre of everyone’s attention. Karlheinz gave Beatrix’s two sons each a gift. He gave Shu a violin, which Shu played all the time and draws people to his music. Reiji instead received a pocket watch that if opened, would reveal the exact time the world ends (“the watch of the end”). Reiji disliked the sound of Shu’s violin, saying by indulging in human enjoyments, vampires were depraving themselves and acting like humans, giving into pleasure.

One day, the maids found Shu’s violin broken. Shu told the maids that it’s fine even though it was a gift from Karlheinz. He then looked at Reiji. Reiji became irritated at how Shu wouldn’t explain himself or say anything; to him this is Shu acting holier-than-thou. I must clarify that Reiji in fact, did not break the violin, as he said he wouldn’t break anything Karlheinz gave.

Even little Shu is so handsome~

Reiji makes a second trip to the Mukamis, this time offering Karlheinz’s pocket watch of the end to show his sincerity in “cooperation”. Ruki is intrigued and says Reiji keeps coming to him despite knowing the Mukamis have the opposite agenda – “it’s almost like you’re reaching for the apple of Eden”. Reiji smiles and said as ex-humans, you guys know better than anyone what happens next after taking a bite out of the forbidden fruit. A tempting offer, but Ruki declines in the end again, saying he learned from his human days that they more you ask for, the more you will lose in the end. However, Ruki agrees to allow Reiji and Yui stay with the Mukamis; they will continue to act according to their own agenda.

Reiji wants to uncover more of the Mukami brothers’ secrets and motivations. He tells Yui to stay close to him, as the Mukami brothers are ready to snatch her away when he is not looking. He starts to crave her blood more than usual.

Yui meets the other Mukami brothers. Azusa got the closest to Yui and even leaves a cut on her hand. When Reiji returns, he notices that Yui is wounded. He becomes truly angry for the first time in this route. He vows to give Azusa a “thorough thank you” and says that the only one allowed to bestow pain and joy to Yui, is himself.

Yuma seems strictly platonic to Yui. He likes farming. Reiji tells Yui to collect intel by assisting Yuma in his vegetable garden. Yui ends up empty handed and covered in mud, so Reiji tells Yui to wash herself. In the meantime, he even sent her clothes to the dry cleaner. This is nice and all, but when Yui steps out of the shower she has no clothes left to change into. Reiji then tells Yui she can borrow his clothes. Yui wears Reiji’s shirt and notes how nice it smells. [You see what I mean by this route is actually kinda sweet?!]

Reiji continues to be a picky tea enjoyer. He is not satisfied with the tea Yui makes for him. After five tries, Yui is about to give up and feels dejected. To her surprise, Reiji tells her she has passed. He says that this time, her tea is delicious, and she’s worked hard, then pats her head. =w=

In another scene, he makes an anemic and sick Yui “special Carbonara” to help her recover.

Reiji’s cravings for Yui’s blood becomes stronger and stronger to the point he cannot distract himself from it anymore. Reiji dislikes this feeling, as for the longest time he always viewed himself as someone in control of his desires and feelings. He tells Yui to stay away from him when he has such cravings, before breaking down and realizing he cannot live without her blood. Are things spiralling out of his control for the first time?

Reiji: I won’t… no, I can’t let go of your blood…

Yui runs into Yuma who becomes forceful with her… just to stuff some candy in her mouth because it’s his favourite thing in the world. Refreshing, finally not someone who’s all like LEMME SUCC. Yuma also shares with Yui that he lost his human memories when he transformed to a vampire.

Reiji’s blood cravings get worse to the point he starts cutting himself trying to distract himself from the pain. Reiji and Yui meet Shu at the school library. Shu again doesn’t probe Reiji on what he’s doing, why he left the Sakamaki household, instead he just quietly looks at him, just like when they were children. Reiji becomes annoyed and tells Shu to stop looking at him “like he knows everything” then storms off. Shu tells Yui to catch up with Reiji and says their bad relationship cannot be helped.

Yui catches up Reiji, who asks her why. Yui says of course you are much more important than Shu to me. Reiji says that he doesn’t like what he is turning into: someone who cannot control his urges and desires. He’s always prided himself on his self-constraint. However, now all he can think of is Yui.

We are taken to a more recent memory of Reiji’s – when he contracted Seiji to hunt down Beatrix. This isn’t exactly new information as we knew this from HDB. In fact, Beatrix was appreciative of Reiji killing her because she’s already been so tormented by Cordelia without a way out, being an immortal vampire and all – but Reiji doesn’t know this. So he felt his plans didn’t go his way because he wanted Beatrix to suffer for not treating him more than Shu’s support.

Beatrix: … Thank you …

Reiji glanced at his pocket watch, and came to the conclusion that Karlheinz gave this to him because only he had the resolve to not look at what’s inside. We then come to present time also with Reiji holding the pocket watch saying “too bad, Dear Father, I looked inside a long, long time ago… At the same time, I love and hate you to death.”

Yuma is seen talking to Reiji. Yuma senses that “Adam” is awakening. He then tells Reiji that even if he retains human values, and that humans and vampires are oil and water, Reiji should learn to accept the existence of things different from himself. Reiji then notes a burn wound on Yuma’s arm. Interesting, a certain someone that was close to Shu was burnt to death a long time ago…

Reiji continues to treat Yui quite nicely, even sleeping in the hallway so Yui can have his bed. When Yui thanks him, he doesn’t face his feelings and says it’s to protect his “property” from being stolen by the Mukamis lmao. On another occasion one of the Mukamis snuck in and licked Yui’s cheek. Reiji refreshingly does not blame Yui (who literally can’t defend herself against any of them) and says that’s on him for leaving without her. He wipes her face with a sterilizing solution then pecks her on the cheek (≧∇≦)

It wouldn’t be a complete Reiji route without his lab and concoctions. He makes Yui drink a tea which is spicy and makes her feel hot. Sexy time ensues. He then asks Yui what was in the tea. Yui and us in front of the screen obviously guessed aphrodisiac; Reiji says no all I put in the tea was ginger powder. Yui instead worries about Reiji having “other” test subjects and volunteers to be his only subject =w= Yui faints from anemia again, and Reiji makes her legit medicine (I guess it’s just iron solution…?) and tells her to drink it all.

Yuma shares apples he grew with Yui, who then cuts them bunny-shaped and gives to Reiji. Reiji thanks Yui and says he wants her to cut them bunny-shaped next time too. [Honestly each of the scenario stories in Reiji route is iconic and memorable in its way.]

Yui finds a baby bird fallen from its nest. She takes it to Reiji’s room to nurse it. Reiji indulges her and even tells her how to prepare baby bird food. However, he later tells her that the bird’s parents are probably looking for it and think it got kidnapped by her. Yui rushes to the spot where she found the bird and returns it to its place. She sees the parent birds looking at their baby from afar but not approaching. Reiji explains once a baby animal gets human scent on them, they can no longer return to nature. Just like Yui. She can no longer return to the human world because they will not accept her (as we know in Kanato route…). He then gives her a gentle kiss.

Reiji finally puts two and two together and deducts that “Yuma” is actually “Edgar”, Shu’s only human childhood friend that Reiji himself supposedly killed in a fire. [mainly because Edgar kept giving Shu apples to take home as well.] This sets his plan in motion. He’s been plotting Sakamaki family’s downfall for a long time. Now he will start with “Edgar”, the person most dear to his older brother Shu. Yui tries to stop him but is told by Reiji they are fundamentally different beings – vampire and human – and will never be allowed to coexist, so he pays no attention to her advice. He says Karlheinz told him and his brothers that to have power and not wield it is a crime [My interpretation is that because Reiji is a pure-blooded vampire, he feels compelled to act a certain way, devoid of emotion or human depravity. He feels Shu and other vampires are not following these standards.] He tells Yui that it’s too late to stop now.

Yui wakes up in a dungeon next to Yuma. Shu is also here. Everyone got drugged by Reiji, who is about to kill Yuma/Edgar in front of Shu as the beginning of his revenge. He brought Yui because he needs to keep her in his sight. Shu takes advantage of this and holds Yui hostage, saying if Reiji kills Yuma, then he will kill Yui. Reiji tries to downplay it saying go ahead, I don’t care, who do you think you are threatening, Yui is nothing but “a being below livestock” to me. Shu sees through Reiji’s lie as he always had since they were little.

Shu: (Do you want to know why Reiji brought you here?) laughs He is worried. Worried that someone will steal you away when he is not looking.
Shu: This guy… always keeps those dear to him close.
Shu: I am your big brother. I’ve known you longer than anyone else.

Reiji is shaken but decides to go on with the plan. Shu comes at Yui with his knife but Reiji blocks the hit.

Reiji asks why Yui is crying for him, why she views him so dearly. Yui says because she is not “livestock” or “food”; she is human. She wants Reiji to scold her, to be with her, and love her… She knows she and Reiji are two different beings, and they are “oil and water”, but she asks him to accept her existence. She says she does not have the right to be “loved” by Reiji, but asks for merely his acceptance.

Reiji (who is still wounded btw) talks about how he finally realizes how he can never reach Karlheinz’s heights, or even Shu’s, as Shu has the ability to naturally command people’s respect and admiration. This is why Karlheinz gave Shu the violin – because people instinctively listen to him and heed his call. He then muses why he got the pocket watch. Could it be because he has the willpower to not open it? Yui says she thinks it’s the opposite: she thinks Karlheinz gave it to Reiji because he is the only one who has the mental fortitude to withstand the consequences of knowing when the world will end.

Reiji says he can’t accept this realization. Shu says it’s fine if he doesn’t, adding that he has always accepted Reiji for who he is. He then turns to Yui and asks her to “take care” of Reiji on his behalf.

Finally after all that talking Reiji collapses. He tells Yui that he loves her. That he knows better than anyone in this world, that he cannot live without her. His final request to Yui is for her to chop off his head with an axe, so he will not resurrect.

Reiji (and Yuma) fall into a long coma. Karlheinz visits Yui himself. He tells Yui that Reiji has sealed off his kindness and warmth from this world, and is currently fighting a battle with himself. He asks Yui if she thinks vampires and humans can coexist. Yui says while Reiji hasn’t accepted this, she has hope that they will understand each other. Karlheinz is satisfied that “Eve” has realized this and says he hopes he can meet Eve next time with Adam by her side.

Karlheinz: Do you think humans and vampires are two different beings?

Vampire End: Over a month has passed, Reiji still hasn’t woken up. Yui nurses him every day back in the Sakamaki household. Ayato comes to her and harasses her to become his instead. During the struggle Yui appears to have fainted, but actually travels to Reiji’s memories and mental world.

She meets little Reiji who carries around a first-aid kit for his family. Yui offers to be his first patient, making little Reiji very happy. Little Reiji shares that he is lonely because his mother and his brother seem cold and distant to him. Yui gives little Reiji a big hug.

This transports her to an ethereal realm where she converses with adult Reiji in his head. Adult Reiji still denies his existence and says he forgot who he is. Yui tells him that he is the son of the vampire king, Karlheinz. This finally allows Reiji to wake up in the real world.

Reiji jokingly scolds Yui for not honouring his last request. As “punishment”, he asks Yui to hug him tightly. Yui tells him that everyone loves and accepts him, making him blush.

Reiji meets Ruki in the aftermath. Ruki tells Reiji that Karlheinz summoned them to propel “Project Eden’s Apple”. Yui, the human girl with the heart of the demon king’s daughter, is Eve. There are a total of 10 people who can be Adam. Eve has chosen “the second son of Sakamaki” to be her Adam. To become Adam, he must earn Eve’s love. Reiji no longer rejects this title. In fact, he is preparing himself to become the second-in-command to Shu, who is officially taking over as the vampire king from Karlheinz.

Shu being the lazyass he is runs away from his coronation to sleep. Yui stops Reiji who wants to rush to find Shu. The two share a loving embrace together.

After story: It’s honestly sugar overload. The whole route is so sweet. It culminates in Reiji getting down on one knee and proposing to Yui to be his bride.

Manservant End: Yuma and Reiji wake up at the same time. Yuma kills Yui in front of Reiji.

Brute End: Reiji kills everyone – the Mukamis and the other Sakamakis. He then turns to Yui and kills her too, because she has Cordelia’s heart. Karlheinz appears and kills Reiji, stopping him in his rampage, then disappears into the sunset wondering where in his plans went wrong.

Reiji: You, are the last one…

Sakamaki Laito (CV: Hirakawa Daisuke)

This = sexy time bgm

Laito fangirls rejoice, but not me. The fanservice in this route is off the charts. For the entire route I was like 👁👄👁 and turned into Laito-kun’s bitch-chan against my will. Those kisses… It was quite an experience… Hirakawa’s voice acting was superb here, especially when his voice goes lower when Laito gets serious/mad.

The base scenarios are basically Laito being a pervert in 365 different ways & fanservice. Story wise, Kou is the rival in this route. He makes the moves on Yui directly; he no longer hides his true intentions or pretend to be a cheerful nice guy like in Subaru’s route. When Laito sees this, he is not angry at all, instead excitedly proposing they “share” Yui, which grosses Kou out ask Laito what kind of sicko he is.

Laito: With unlimited time on our hands, we gotta spice up our life somehow, no? hehe.

Kou asks Yui what Laito is to her: master? boyfriend? Yui can’t answer. He then asks what she is to him. Food? Toy? Lover? Being ex-human, he cannot stomach Laito’s depravity and calls him “the trash of trash”. He then foreshadows his own past a bit and tells Yui to not lose herself in the game of indulgence with Laito. He can tell Yui is attached, but Laito so far is playing the field.

Kou: The “toys” that delude themselves they are more than toys are the saddest among them all.

The central theme of Laito’s past is the definition of “love”. Growing up emotionally and sexually abused by his mother Cordelia (this was in HDB), Laito remained emotionally stunted and confused about what “love” is, since he heard Cordelia throw that word out to everyone, when it was convenient for her…

He tried to rationalize it to when two people “do things that make them feel good together”. Love is lust. Love is desire. Love is a magic word to get others to do your bidding… In Laito’s past, he started telling every woman that he loved them and started having a harem among the maids, who fought over him, but all he felt was endless boredom and a growing emptiness in his heart. He told them he loved them, because it was convenient; why turn them down? Love is not real after all. It’s a feel-good imagination.

Laito offered to share with Kou earlier, but became annoyed and jealous when Yui had her blood sucked by Kou (not like Yui could fight…). He can’t quite explain it. He also becomes disappointed in Yui, as she’s “just like” everyone else who will move onto other people.

Laito: I knew it… You cannot believe in “love”.

Laito asks Yui where she thinks the feeling of love originates: brain or heart? Yui replies even though the technical answer is brain, she believes it comes from the heart. Laito then mocks here saying but your heart is not your own. Does that mean your emotions are also not yours? Yui says of course not. Laito asks himself what exactly Yui is to him. He does not have an answer yet.

Laito: Bitch-chan, are you saying your feelings are not actually your own, but that woman’s?

Laito starts craving Yui’s blood. Kou walks in on them in the library. Laito tells Kou that Yui’s blood is “special” to him.

Yui latches onto this and asks Laito if he has anyone “special” to him. She basically throws at him the “what are we” question. Laito nonchalantly tells her that he loves her, so she can rest assured she is “special” to him. This is obviously insincere. Laito has shut his heart off and just wants Yui to shut up like the other women. He then warns Yui to not grow attached. He sucks her blood, but grows disinterested due to Yui’s insistence on being someone special, and leaves after.

I love you.
You wanted to be “special”, right? Do you feel special now? Hehe.
Do not ask to be more. I’m already getting annoyed. I need to feast on your blood.

Yui finds Laito in the sewers trying to cool himself off from his intense cravings for Yui’s blood. Laito becomes frustrated says he wants to die because he cannot stand to be tormented by this craving any longer. Yui walks up and offers her blood. Laito asks if he can suck all of her blood and kill her here, and Yui’s like uhhh. Laito gets frustrated and rejects Yui, saying she’s “half-assed”. Yui says even if I appear half-assed, I love you so I am willing to sacrifice for you. Laito becomes triggered and yells at Yui if she’s after the ecstasy of being with him, or his own love and vulnerability?! He forces Yui to leave him. [Boy is such a hot mess and putting poor Yui through shit tests. I swear Cordelia’s kids are all a different level of messed up.]

Laito: Leave me alone! To believe there’s something like true love in this world, how laughable!

Yui meets Mr. Reinhart (Karlheinz) who gives her some relationship advice. She goes home and finds Shu trying to help a Laito covered in blood. Laito tried to stab himself in the heart in order to kill and free himself from the torment and craving.

We get another flashback and monologue of Laito saying that to submit oneself to love is to allow oneself to be deceived; that is not a nice way to live, so he chooses to close off his heart. After all, he learned all of this from the best – that woman. You cannot lose anything special, if no one is special to you in the first place. As a price, you will never be someone else’s “special”… For the longest time, Laito deluded himself that he was loved by Cordelia, but her actions betrayed him and shattered his illusions.

Laito: (I don’t have anything “special” to me. Just like how nobody truly sees me as “special”.)
Ayato: Can you wake up and open your eyes?! You, Kanato, and I – we were never loved by Cordelia, even for a bit!

Yui gets kissed by Kou. Laito notices Kou’s scent and becomes angry that she betrayed him just like Cordelia (bruh…). He drives Yui away again. He says he was careless in almost giving his heart to Yui, but will hold back. In a later scenario, he and Ayato actually share Yui’s blood while she is blindfolded. Afterwards, he asks if Yui liked the vampire in the front or back. Yui says the back, as she senses that is Laito. Laito is satisfied and praises her, but says she will never be special to him and she has to accept that. In exchange, he won’t care about who Yui gets with and will always be happy to share. Yui doesn’t like this and begs Laito and wants to be exclusive with him, to the point she even starts stripping down for him in the hallway.

Laito: I almost fell for you… Close one…

Anyway, Laito is such a messed up and confused character I’m just like this the entire route. Someone really should have called child protective services on Cordelia, Karlheinz should have taken the kids, wtf is this

Kou finds Yui, under Ruki’s orders, to declare his love for her one last time yet admitting defeat that he cannot be “Adam”, despite him being better looking and having a better personality than Laito.

Yui goes to the church for a moment of solace. She meets Mr. Reinhart whose powers are weaker in a holy place, and she hears two voices at the same time from Reinhart and Karlheinz.

Mr. Reinhart?: To love, and to yearn to be loved are in our nature.

Laito asks Reiji to concoct a poison that will kill vampires. He is still intent on going through with suicide. Reiji turns to Yui and tells her that she can stop this, if she chooses to die instead. I mean idk why Reiji did that other than to stir the pot as we literally just read in his last route he hopes to kill all the Sakamakis. Yui tells Laito that she will do it for him, because he is “special” to her. Laito says lol k you’re still not special to me.

Then Yui drinks the poison and … dies?!

Laito cannot stop crying, but he cannot comprehend why.

He also kisses Yui in the CG variation.

If Yui actually died we can’t play the game, so thanks to plot armour her soul travels to Eden and gets preserved by Karlheinz, who tells her his Eve cannot die so easily and that if she has hope to rectify all of this, she should go back. He also tells her that Laito is suffering because he cannot face his emotions.

Karlheinz knew about Richter’s little trick all along.

Yui travels to an imaginary realm where she meets a crying little Laito. She gently gives him a hug and soothes him. This takes her back to real life, where present day Laito is crying beside her body. They then have sexy time together. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Laito shares with Yui how he pushed his mother off the balcony after Ayato mortally wounded her, ignoring her pleas for help. The main story ends.

Laito: This is my way of expressing love, so I’m going to kill you now.

Vampire End:

Ruki: The union between a human with a non-human heart, and a nonhuman who wins a human heart…

Ruki and Karlheinz are seen talking off screen. While Adam and Eve have declared themselves in this timeline, Karlheinz worries about the stability of their relationship. He laments that he neglected his children too much to the point they are all twisted as a result. Ruki says he is jealous of the Sakamakis for taking so much of Karlheinz’s consideration. Karlheinz remarks that Ruki is “green” for saying that.

In an attempt to get back at Kou who did the same thing in the main route, Laito takes Yui on a date and take photos in the booth together. He also gives Yui a promise ring in the end.

After Story: Lots of ichaicha but nothing really of substance? They say some more confessions, Laito gets randomly upset for a bit, yadi yada.

Manservant End: Laito becomes yandere and due to a series of unfortunate misunderstandings, he keeps Yui captive in his dungeon.

Laito: All you need to see is me… No, all of your world should only have me in it.

Brute End: Laito demands Yui to kill him, as a demonstration of her love for him. Yui hesitates, so he kills Yui instead because “if you don’t love me, then I don’t love you either.” Ok so Yui is getting killed if he loves her (because he and other vampires are obsessed with this “dying at the hands of their lover” trope), and killed too if she doesn’t? Hot damn.

Laito: To us vampires, death is bliss… The celebration of the end.

SAKAMAKI AYATO (CV: Midorikawa Hikaru)

The most tsundere of them all

THE SEXIEST VOICE IN ALL OF DIALOVERS 🥵 Is this what Laito girlies felt last route! Midorikawa is such a legend. The way his voice vibrates on your eardrums… heaven.

Honestly as the face of the franchise, Ayato’s story is fairly straightforward. He acts arrogant and all “oresama”, and claims Yui as his property, his “livestock” (even to the end) but his actions betray his declarations; Yui finally catches onto that in the end and teases him. Ruki is his rival, whose performance nearly whisked me away (as did to Yui) so I look forward to Ruki route even more now. The way Ayato treats Yui is absolutely unacceptable and horrible, and is possessive to the point like a kid to his new toy, a wolf to its sheep. There is also inconsistency in Ruki’s writing. However, all can be absolved in the name of this is Diabolik Lovers, and this is Midorikawa Hikaru. Amen.

In the beginning we are shown a cute little Ayato who was playing with block and, trying to break his tallest goal. Cordelia came and told him that he was her tool to compete with Beatrix’s children. As she left, she callously sweeps all the blocks with her dress, nor did she care. Instead, she told Ayato instead of wasting time building castles out of playing blocks, why not try to conquer a real castle so he could actually impress Karlheinz. Jeez lady he was kid.

Cordelia: Fufu… Listen, Ayato. You cannot lose to anyone. Even your brothers… [can we take a moment to appreciate his precious smile]

In the present timeline, Ayato is also the only one (except Richter) who noticed Yui’s blood changed scent.

Ayato: Your blood tastes different…

The daily scenarios are basically Ayato being do-S towards Yui. If anything, I am more interested in the comedic element and tidbits about Ayato. One time, Ayato got Yui to drink a truth potion, who then started coming hard onto Ayato and confessing her love. In another instance, Ayato has horrible grades (how did he get picked by Cordelia to be the one to go against Shu… Shu is lazy but he knows his stuff). Yui makes a deal with Ayato that if he even manages to solve one problem, he can suck on her blood. Yep… he didn’t get even one question right hahaha. Yui also walks into Ayato’s gravure model photo collection; Ayato doubles down by saying he is a boobs man and makes fun of Yui for being flat or “chichinashi”.

Yui: I don’t know why, but seeing you makes my heart pound and flutter. I just want to fly into your embrace…

One night, Yui is left alone in the living room with a thunderstorm. Ayato leaves her on purpose. Yui is very afraid of the lightning. Eventually she breaks down and begs Ayato to come out and protect her, who gives her a kiss.

However, Ayato continues to regard Yui as his “livestock” “feed”. He would suck on her blood to the point she goes unconscious then leaves her at the scene. One of those times, Ruki finds Yui and sends her to the infirmary. I honestly don’t find Ruki to be attracted to Yui. He asks her questions in attempt to make her examine herself such as “do you allow yourself to be degraded this way by Ayato in the name of love” and encourages her to have more self-respect.

Ayato quickly spirals into a frenzy for Yui’s blood. However, Yui is already quite anemic and not suitable to provide more. To quench his literal thirst for blood, Ayato goes out and attacks random humans and sucks on their blood. Yui is hurt that Ayato chooses other people to suck blood from, meanwhile Ayato realizes deep down that nobody’s blood could replace Yui’s and becomes frustrated at this.

Ayato: She is “special” to me?! Fuck off with this shit…

Ruki shows up again and tries to convince Yui to leave Ayato and go with him, because he’d actually treat her like a human. Yui hesitates but declines.

We go into another flashback of Ayato’s memory. He continued to build blocks. Laito came by and said this wouldn’t attract Cordelia’s attention, for it all belonged to Karlheinz. Cordelia stormed in and threw another one of her temper tantrums because Karlheinz stayed with other women. She then turned her anger towards innocent Ayato and yelled at the child to stop playing with useless blocks, then threw them in the furnace.

In present time, Ayato basically tortures Yui in different ways until she passes out in his arms from anemia again. However, Ayato stays by her side, stating he wants to help her get better so he can feed on her again faster. Alright, bro…

Ruki takes Yui to the school rooftop. He is a bit disappointed at how “Eve” who is supposed to be the perfect woman, has such low regard for herself. He tells Yui that he desires her not as “livestock” “blood supply” but as a “woman”. He also cryptically tells Yui that “your pain right now, I have experienced a long time ago.”

[Rejet is known to contradict themselves. Hence, why so many people *rightfully* dunk on DiaLovers’ writing and plot. Till the end Ruki can’t make up his mind whether he goes full Kou and attracted to Yui or simply want to help Karlheinz achieve his goal – help Adam and Eve come together.]

Ruki: Stop hesitating, “Eve”. Take my hand. Come with me…

However, Ayato has been searching for Yui this whole time. And he is not going to let Yui leave with anyone but himself. Ruki challenges Ayato’s view of Yui as “livestock”, provoking him by asking if he would allow Ruki to suck her blood. Ayato replies he doesn’t care, as long as Ruki doesn’t kill Yui and leaves enough blood for him.

Ayato: If you take her from me then I will fight to have her back. Because… she is my “feed”, that’s all there is to it!

It is a full moon tonight. Ayato’s desire for blood is all the stronger, amplified by his pureblood vampire status. Reflecting on Ayato’s carefree attitude about what happens to Yui as long as she is “alive” and has blood left for him, Ruki asks Yui if this is really the way she wants to continue living on. Yui now wants to escape but says she physically cannot. Ruki tells her until she escapes from this hell, she must continue on trying and not lose hope. [Honestly, I don’t know enough about Ruki’s psyche or backstory at this point to tell if he is telling the truth or just lying to get Yui to join him. However, lie or not he is refreshingly normal and reasonable compared to Ayato so that is a plus.]

Ruki: I don’t want to treat you like livestock. I want to treat you like a human

Yui finally stops sucking up to Ayato’s abuse. She not only talks back but actually makes it out of the castle and runs away from Ayato [OK but can’t all the Sakamakis teleport or something, what happened Rejet]. Conveniently, Ruki has been waiting for her, starting with a knightly kiss on the princess’ hand…

Ruki: Give me your hand. Welcome at last, “Eve”. Starting from a welcome kiss…

Yui chooses Ruki. Before we can learn more, we are taken back to another key fragment of Ayato’s childhood. A lovesick Cordelia was getting ready for date night with Karlheinz. She fondly recalled how he picked her out of the crowd at that ball, and invited her to dance. Her heart had belonged to him since then. However, Karlheinz once again backs out of the arrangement last minute and sends a bouquet of blue roses (“impossible”). He was tormenting Cordelia, who again took it out on her innocent son. Ayato accidentally stepped on the flowers after Cordelia tossed them to the ground. This earned him a full on beating by his mother.

We end the memory with Ayato’s monologue. He talks about how from that incident, he has given up all positive emotions towards his mother. The love is slowly replaced with hate. Ayato is not the only one. Cordelia’s cruel treatment of all her three children have caused them to all hate and plot against her, while she remains oblivious. Eventually, they will orchestrate her downfall: “this woman is better dead than alive.”

Ayato: damn my mom is cooked the flower language literally means “impossible” Karlheinz ain’t coming ever

In Ecstasy scenarios, Yui already lives with Ruki and the Mukamis, but still attends school and gets bullied by and her blood sucked by Ayato. ???? Where is Ruki in all of this? What’s the point of moving her to his house then not protecting her or telling Ayato to back off? Why am I even asking Rejet to write coherent stories? My bad…

Ayato: You are my and only my property! You’re my food.

After a few scenes, Ruki suddenly decides to draw the line this time and stands up for Yui. Touching, but late and inconsistent if you ask me. The verbal altercation becomes a physical brawl, culminating in Ruki getting a knife stabbed to his body. When he goes to Mr. Reinhart, Ruki covers it up with a stupid excuse, that Reinhart was more than happy to accept, because he isn’t going to let his son have any consequences anyway lol.

Ruki: Even if Yui to you is livestock, she is human. She has a heart.

Ayato and Ruki switch places, with Ayato now vying for Yui’s attention, including begging her to go home with him. Yui strongly rejects Ayato, saying she cannot go home with him, “because I now have feelings for you”. Yui is frustrated that she was not allowed to communicate or demonstrate her love to Ayato clearly, so she doesn’t stay with him???? Sorry this doesn’t make any sense, and I went back and read it multiple times?? Ayato then says if you want to prove to me your love so badly, then walk past the fence on the roof. So Yui really crosses it and falls down the building???? What am I reading??? [The CG was also hilarious, how did Yui make the bars disappear]

Before Yui falls, she somehow musters superhuman strength to do a pull up for several seconds and deliver a moving confession to Ayato about how she yearns for his love, wants to be treated more than an animal etc. etc. All of these points make sense individually, but the way they were assembled made the whole dialogue incomprehensible.

Ayato: Let’s go home, Yui… Come…

As she falls down, Ayato sees her and his life flash before his eyes and teleports to save her (ok where were those sick skills when Yui ran to Ruki), declaring that she does not have the right to even take her own life for it belonged to him.

Ayato: … I never allowed you to die.
Ayato: Only one person holds the right to your blood, to toy with you, to torment you to tears… to make you happy or sad… and that is me.

Before we arrive at the finale of the main story, Ayato relives him stabbing Cordelia before Laito and Kanato did their parts through a monologue. Karlheinz showed up after Cordelia died, lamenting how his children all turned out to be wicked, twisted beings & how this world needed to be cleansed from its sins – with a new breed of vampire? human?

Yui decides to stay with Ayato and return to the Sakamaki household. She apologizes to Ruki, who tells her to not overthink, as he never liked her romantically. He was feeding her sweet words in order to propel “someone”‘s agenda. However, in the background, we hear this. So which one is it Rejet?? Karlheinz also reveals that he manipulated Richter to create the vessel for Eve – nonhuman heart, human female body, many nights ago. This plan has been in motion for a long time.

Ruki: If I could choose, I wish I was the one fulfilling the role of Adam… it could be helped, I suppose.

The main story ends with Karlheinz saying to Socrates (who was a friend of Karlheinz in this game) a famous quote of Socrates himself: It is better to be a human who can feel and is sorrowful as a result, than a pig who has no feeling and in ignorant bliss.

Vampire End: Ayato craves less of Yui’s blood, becomes sleepier and sleepier. He falls into a slumber so deep that it lasts for over 6 months. Just when everyone thinks Ayato is going to rot in his sleep, he wakes up finally one day after a long search for Yui. He then asks Yui to marry him.

Ayato: When I was asleep, I was searching for you the whole time in my dream.

What’s more important in the vampire end is that the tale of Adam and Eve in this world is retold: Adam and Eve were born as vampires. Eve was tempted by the snake and ate the forbidden fruit. The wrathful God sentences of judgement, turning Eve into a powerless human. Eve runs up to Adam and makes him eat the fruit too, hoping to turn him human. However, Adam remains a vampire. God would not allow Adam and Eve to be the same species; they need to overcome their differences, learn to love each other until the end of their lives, in the Eden that God (Karlheinz) built for them.

We also see Karlheinz making the deal with the church, the creation of Yui with Cordelia’s heart within, and Karlheinz’s musings of whether a “species strong enough to bring down God” will be created. He says he has seen how this world will end from rot, then rebirthed.

But that’s enough spoiler of the overarching story of the game. Wedding photo time!

After Story: The CG is mid but the story was entertaining. Ayato tries to show Yui and Karlheinz he can be a reliable family man who brings in the bread in this modern society, starting from relearning high school subjects so he can enrol in an university. Yui becomes his tutor. Ayato ends up being accepted to university and is on his way to becoming a Japanese salaryman~ lol

Manservant End: God I wish Rejet gave us more of those endings. Yui awakens her inner yandere and drugs Ayato into a lifeless doll that will never leave her again.

Yui: This is all because you sucked other women’s blood, Ayato-kun.

Brute End: Ayato shares Yui with everyone, who becomes addicted to the sensation of having her blood sucked. Ayato then kills her because she completed the self-fulfilling prophecy that she never truly loved Ayato and is only addicted to this feeling.

SAKAMAKI SHU (CV: Toriumi Kousuke)

The most handsome face in DiaLovers and he knows it. Unfortunately the CGs were hit and miss.

Shu’s chapter starts with little Shu’s monologue. “The happiness that everyone yearns for, I was born with.” As the oldest son of Karlheinz, he was expected to take over the family one day as the future king of vampires. However, he noted that he never asked nor wanted this. The rest of the story we know from HDB. Little Shu ran outside and accidentally ended up in the human world, where he met Edgar, who has a sprite this time, because he is Yuma. We see little Shu’s smile for the first time when he finally got to escape his duties and become a kid. Beatrix as a mother is already much nicer than Cordelia and stabler than Christa. However, she forces her expectations on her children, causing both Reiji and Shu to become unhappy. Had she listened and allowed Reiji to become heir and Shu to freely do whatever he wants, then this wouldn’t be a dark vampire game anymore.

We then jump back to the present when Shu throws Yui an apple saying he’s eaten enough today.

Edgar: From today we are buddies, Shu. Don’t let me down!

In this game, Shu is the real Laito. He’s a lot more traditionally flirty and perverted?.. Laito strikes me as trying to hard to be kinky and lusty whereas Shu is your run of the mill sleazy dude only he is also hot af so we allow it.

We run into Yuma who is of course the rival. Shu tells Yuma that he isn’t going to give up his “food”. Yuma corners Yui at the school backyard forcing Shu to intervene. During the altercation Yui accidentally gets pushed and her hand gets briefly burnt by a stove. Shu loses his cool because well we know what happened to Edgar and why he’s so afraid of fire as a result. Shu also recognizes that Yuma is Edgar. However, Yuma seems to have lost his memories as human so doesn’t recognize Shu.

Little Shu’s next monologue talks about how as a vampire, Edgar is his first friend. Shu and Edgar talked about their current lives as aristocrat and peasant. They were both envious of each other’s lives. Edgar shared apples from his village with Shu; even after he’s “gone” for so long Shu still enjoys them. Shu proposed to bring Edgar to a dinner party hosted by the Sakamaki’s, disguised as his servant, so that Edgar could experience the high life. Reiji found out about Shu sneaking out and befriending a human.

At the party, Reiji gave Edgar a difficult time and told him to dance. Edgar fumbled and rushed out in shame. Shu chased Edgar outside feeling guilty that he shouldn’t have proposed this and humiliated Edgar. However, Edgar said it’s OK and that maybe he was never meant to be a noble and this is his punishment for trying. Edgar talked about how they ultimately lived in different worlds and maybe their lives were never meant to mix. However, overall he had fun and saw things he would have never experienced otherwise, and thanked Shu for the opportunity. When Edgar changed back into his outfit, Shu noted a wound on his shoulder. Edgar replied he fell off heights as a child.

Shu starts distancing himself from Yui despite craving her blood more. This is Shu’s way of repenting for what happened to Edgar and his village, even though we know Reiji did it. Shu feels if he never snuck out and befriended Edgar, Reiji wouldn’t unleash his wrath on them. Shu tells Yui to run away, why stick with a person who treats her like shit. But we know how much of a Do-M Yui is so ofc she stays.

The maniac short stories are more instances of Shu being a pervert. A funny story is when a girl asks Yui to hand Shu a love letter. Shu says the only way he will keep it is if Yui reads it to him, in first person. It ended up being Yui saying some hot and steamy things including “I will gladly offer my body to you” LOL until she realizes she is reading a letter but Shu is baiting her to confess!!!

Yuma meets Yui again. He still can’t remember who Shu is, but feels they have crossed before. Yuma says instinctively Shu is “not a bad guy.” He asks Yui who suggests him to ask Shu directly. Shu learns of this and becomes upset. However, Reinhart who is also present cryptically says that sometimes, the only way to achieve salvation is to recall what has happened and to embrace it. Ok thanks dad.

Shu: Sometimes it’s a blessing in disguise to forget the past.

Reiji tells Yui about what happened in his flashback/monologues. Yuma eventually confronts Shu who feels there is no point to bring up Reiji (even though it’s really all Reiji’s fault) in this and simply said he burnt Yuma’s village. He then tells Yui to leave him alone. Yui doesn’t and gives him a big hug in the rain, saying she knows that he didn’t do this to Edgar.

After returning from the rain, Yui catches a high fever and fell asleep. when she wakes up, she sees Shu taking care of and waiting for her at bedside. Shu tells Yui that time and time again he loses important people and things to him. In time, he has learned to not care about anything because that’s the only way to not experience loss and heartbreak.

Blushy Shu kyaaa

Just when I thought it’s rabu rabu time, Shu and Yuma have another showdown on the school roof where Yuma becomes angry and beats Shu up who stands there and takes the blows. Yuma threatens to take Yui away from him. Shu basically says sure go for it. Yui: 👁👄👁 Back to square one…

Yuma takes Yui back to the Mukami household and treats her pretty nicely? However, Yui is all like nooo I have Stockholm’s I wanna go back to my Do-S hottie vampire who treats me like a piece of trash~~

Eventually the writers realize they’ve written long enough and need to end this story so they have Yuma set the whole Mukami household on fire trapping both himself and Yui in it. His reasoning is that he has faith Shu will come to them and I guess achieve salvation by “saving” them this time? What the fuck?

Shu saves Yui and tells her come home honey. Yui is like yes danasama~~ Alright…

Vampire End:

Shu: Shu “san”?

Shu and Yui become such a lovey dovey couple. Shu finally convinces Yui to ditch the honorific when addressing him. He wants Yui all to himself so they eloped and share a kiss under the falling stars. Yippie!

After story: Shu sells his MP3 player (I forgot why; I don’t think it was for money). Yui gets a job selling flowers at a shop and wants to buy back the MP3 as a surprise gift for Shu. Shu supports Yui’s job and also gets a job of his own playing violin.

(Headphone-less!) Shu: I want to match your pace.

Eventually, the two find out about each other’s intentions. This route is surprisingly wholesome as Shu becomes such a supportive hubby.

Shu: I want you to be happy, Yui.

Of course Yui gets hit on by the flower shop owner’s son. Shu tells him off (while kissing Yui aggressively in front of the guy. Trust me just treat this as fanfiction and you won’t laugh at how ridiculous it is LOL)

Manservant End: Yuma is MIA after the fire, just like the first time. Shu becomes obsessed with searching for him and distant with Yui. So Yui kidnaps Shu and makes him her manservant if you know what I mean :^)

Brute End: Reiji locks Shu, Yuma, and Yui in a dungeon and does an animal experiment with them. We get an NTR ending.

MUKAMI AZUSA (CV: Kishio Daisuke)

TW: Lots of self harm. Even with the “redemption” happy ending I felt extremely uncomfortable playing this route. Azusa is a poor soul that’s been hated by the whole world since his birth. He developed extremely twisted yet adaptive coping mechanisms to justify and even look forward to the abuse he has received. I feel bad for the kid. It’s not like Yui had a choice, but man this route was dark… The CGs were drop-dead gorgeous this route. I didn’t dig the voice acting. Especially in the after story it felt the CV gave up and was mechanically reading out the words.

Azusa is an orphan who grew up in the slums. Growing up, he’s been chased around and beaten by just about everyone. They call him all sorts of nasty names. Eventually, Azusa developed a perverted coping mechanism where he justifies his physical abuse as the reason for him living, that people “need” him to take the abuse as his way of life. He also remembers three “friends” who were really three people that bullied him: Justin, Christina, Melissa. Remember those names because they will appear a lot.

He chases Yui around begging her to beat him, cut him (he has an assortment of knives), kick him, and Yui obviously runs away and is extremely peeved out by this. He also craves extremely spicy food. Not only does he want to be physically abused, he treats physical abuse as his love language. In his mind, winning Eve over with “love” is to inflict the same kind of abuse onto Yui. No wonder he and Kanato are rivals. These two are hands down the most fucked up routes of the game.

Yui offers to redress Azusa’s wounds. However, Azusa becomes offended and states these wounds are his friends: Justin, Christina, Melissa. He needs to constantly cut himself so that his “friends” don’t go away. [I was honestly so uncomfortable during this part of the route but surprisingly I don’t hate Azusa route overall in the end.] He then offered to make some “friends” for Yui. Eek no thank you. Yui is also like get me out of this but she has to placate him and try to understand Azusa, because what other choice has she got.

Kanato appears as the rival and screams some angry shit lol ok. Azusa tells Yui that the Sakamakis are purer blood vampires and are more likely to become Adam. He then mutters something where the textbox says “because… inferior…” the voice was saying “because we are the inferior species…”. Later, Yui overhears Ruki telling Azusa formally that as non-pureblood vampires, it is impossible for him to become Adam. Azusa becomes emo and doesn’t take this well.

We hit the prologue/epilogue of a chapter and see more of Azusa’s past. The police came to his street and “exterminated the thieves/crime offenders”. Namely, they killed the only three people who even bothered to interact with Azusa, even if in the way of bullying and physical abuse: Justin, Christina, Melissa are dead. The policeman thought Azusa would be overjoyed to hear their deaths, given they abused him. Instead, Azusa broke down crying because he didn’t have a meaning to live anymore; he was alone again. Eventually, he was taken by a travelling merchant and deposited at the orphanage where he met the rest of Mukamis.

We return to the present where Azusa asks himself if he can defy all odds and become Adam, as this is now his reason to live, his reason to “have a purpose”.

At school, Kanato jumps out again demanding Yui to go back with him. Azusa shows up and burns his Teddy just like in Kanato’s route LMAO. Azusa asks if Yui wants to go back to the Sakamakis. Yui says no, I actually came waiting to go home with you. Azusa becomes super happy and asks Yui to confirm that she is waiting for him, and that she wants to spend time with him.

As Yui grows closer to Azusa, she attempts to dissuade him from recreating his “friends”. Azusa is not willing to listen, and sucks on her blood in irritation whenever she mentions.

Azusa: I won’t lose to that guy [Kanato]. You belong to me… Do you have faith in us?

This part I haven’t taken enough screenshots to piece the story together so I do not guarantee the accuracy. I started writing because TIL Switch has a screenshot limit of 1000 or something and it won’t let me screenshot Ruki route anymore. So I’m here decompressing my storage. I was initially hoping to finish the entire game and write all Mukami routes together.

I believe Yui almost fell down the stairs and Azusa saved her. Yui thanks him which makes him elated. Instead of trying to be nice to Yui, he pushes her down the stairs one more time and failed to catch Yui this time. We nor Yui understand why he did that, but Azusa had quite a chilling and sociopathic explanation: he just wanted Yui to thank her. I remember watching a YouTube video of someone sharing one of those sociopath tests. The question goes: A man meets a beautiful woman at someone’s funeral. He falls in love with her. Two days later the beautiful woman’s mother is murdered. What happened? Normal people like us would have no clue, but apparently a sociopath would say: because he wanted to see the woman again, so he needed to create another funeral. Azusa’s response made me immediately think of this example. So yes, TLDR: he is fuuuuucked in the head and if this weren’t DL verse MC needs to run, but she can’t here so …

Azusa: Because if I got to save you again… you’d thank me again, no?

Yui becomes scared of him. Azusa senses it and says he will leave her alone. Yui gets some temporary peace. She meets Seiji (her “dad’) at the church, similar to Kanato route. Seiji again says Yui has turned into a vampire and tries to kill her. Azusa then blocks the silver bullet for Yui, becoming mortally wounded. He tells Yui he did it for her because in the beginning, she chose him.

Azusa: [You chose me,] hence, this is my purpose: to protect you.

Azusa doesn’t want to get treatment for his wound because he still believes they are his friends. Only this time the silver bullet can actually kill a vampire and he is not immortal. He still won’t listen to Yui’s pleas, but upon seeing her cry for him, he asks her to stop crying alone, as this makes his heart ache in pain. He tells Yui that he understands how hard it is to be alone… because that was him a long time ago.

Azusa: This is why they say tears are the blood of the heart. It is impossible to stop them.

So when did Azusa stop being lonely? When he acquired his “friends” or friends in real life: Yuma, Kou, Ruki? We see in a flashback where the three boys approached Azusa. Azusa told them that he was a good for nothing thief who shouldn’t be associated with them. Yuma was like lol we don’t care you our little bro now.

I don’t even know how they ended up cuddling in bed [my screenshot game is really lacking here]… Enjoy the CG I guess. Was Azusa dreaming of his memories of meeting the rest of the Mukamis?

Ruki finds Yui and tells her she needs to get him to accept treatment or her mans will die. Yui continues to beg Azusa without much progress. Azusa softens up to Yui though, cooking her normal food now, wanting Yui to enjoy and not be tormented by the spiciness.

This bathroom kiss scene came out of nowhere lol there really was no buildup or substance to it.

Just when I thought Azusa is finally going to be normal, he had to double down and cut Yui’s arm so that they “match”, and threaten Yui to not tell him to get treatment again, or he will strangle her to death. He then tells Yui “I hate you” and becomes a shut-in. 😭😭😭 Wtf is this route man what the hell

Because Azusa won’t open the door for her or his brothers, Yui decides to risk her life by going through the balcony. Of course she almost slips and dies but Azusa catches her. The two then have a heart to heart.

Azusa: [The saddest thing in the world] is not death. It is to not be needed by anyone.

Yui tells Azusa that she doesn’t want him to die, because he is important to her. Azusa asks even if I could never become Adam? Yui is like silly of course. She gives him a big hug and tells him he is important to many people: Yuma, Kou, Ruki, and Komori Yui… She tells him she will always stay by his side.

Azusa: Am I… necessary to you?

Azusa makes up his mind to say a final goodbye to his friends: Justin, Christina, Melissa.

In the final moments of the common route, the four Mukami brothers (not yet vampires, and not related by blood) attempt to make an escape from the orphanage and got shot down by the people hunting them. Karlheinz asks each one of them, in this case Azusa, if he wants to live on as an immortal.

Vampire End:

Precious smile

Ruki separates Yui and Azusa because Azusa cannot become Adam, and Eve needs to be with Adam, per “His” orders. However, Yui awakens her do-S vampire side and kicks everybody’s ass including Seiji’s to reunite with Azusa. Ruki is moved by their love for each other and tells them to elope, while he will explain to “Him”.

Azusa: It’s different now. We are… free.

Time fast forwards, and we see Azusa and Yui having a picnic outside, with children running around calling “mama” and “papa”. Ayo did they have kids?? Stay tuned for after story…

After Story:

No they did not have biological kids. However, they opened an orphanage and treated the children with kindness. Azusa actually named them after Justin, Christina, and Melissa as a way to commemorate his past. Azusa is fully wholesome in this ending to the point it almost doesn’t feel real. At one point the children asked if they should also get wounds to “match mama”. Azusa instead tells them to match mama’s “kindness” and “happiness she brings to everyone” instead of … hurting themselves. Wow Azusa I am impressed this is A+ parenting. Be the parent you never had they say.

In the end, Yui and the kids prepare a surprise gift for Azusa as a big thank-you for all he’s done for the family.

Brute End: Yui for some reason wants to run back to the Sakamakis here and gets caught by Azusa, who basically breaks her. Now every waking moment Yui begs to be physically hurt and abused by Azusa.

Azusa: I will not hand you over to Adam.

Manservant End: Azusa gets paranoid that Yui will be stolen by the real “Adam” from Sakamakis, so Yui stays at home forever. Now Azusa won’t lose her again.

MUKAMI YUMA (CV: Suzuki Tatsuhisa)

I have to confess that my first Tatsuhisa otome CV role was Akuroou from Dairoku Ayakashimori, which is stylistically very different from Yuma or Melody (from Volontes that I recently played and reviewed). From Shu’s route we know Yuma is Edgar. However, his route avoids re-exploring this past (and in fact, if you uncover it for Yuma you trigger the bad endings). Yuma’s route focuses on the aftermath of Reiji burning down his village. Yuma is adopted by the “Boss” of some underground rebellious organization and given the name “Bear”. Yuma looks up to Boss and his ideals of changing the world. Because we don’t have time to go into what kind of ideals, this all seems a bit hollow to me.

There was a similar Ayato CG too. Just make the fence solid this is so weird…

I found this route slightly lacking compared to a lot of the other routes because there wasn’t really tension between Yuma and Yui. Yuma basically kicks Yui around and sucks on her blood. He is the tallest person in the franchise so far and often carries Yui like a sack of potatoes around his shoulder. How romantic. He is a bit of a tsundere too and usually doesn’t go overboard with his jokes and teasing. He also loves eating sugar cubes and calls them “sugar-chan”. He really treats Yui like a boy with his toy and can get quite possessive.

Yuma: I definitely didn’t make this just for you! B-Baka… (jk he didn’t really say that I wish though)

Because Yuma was a farmer boi even though he doesn’t remember it, he keeps a vegetable garden at the Mukamis. The garden is kind of pretty so I’m screenshotting here.

We get more flashbacks of Boss’ ideals, namely he wanted to make the country a place where everyone were equal and nobody was others’ property (kind of ironic how Yui is being treated like Yuma’s property right now. Eventually, the government sent troops and killed everyone from the organization including Boss, who told “Bear” to live on and carry his legacy and make some positive change to this world. This motivated Yuma to be come Adam, because he believed that being Adam would grant him immense power. This is also Yuma’s dream and obsession. Upon talking to Yui one day, who says she has dreamt of being a bride, but also a nun? Lol I guess either way she would be satisfied. Yuma cruelly laughs at Yui and says she has already been tainted by vampires so she could never be a Sister at the church.

Yui has some brief exchanges with Shu who is nonchalant as ever. Yuma does not recognize Shu, but comments he finds Shu to be the most irritating out of all the Sakamaki brothers because of his “aristocratic snobbiness”.

The two work in the garden together one day when Yui notices some roses. This is unusual as Yuma usually only grows vegetables. Yuma says he grew those roses in commemoration of Boss.

Yuma becomes suddenly mean towards Yui and irritated when she talks to him. He mocks her for studying scripture to become a nun. The backstory is that despite his efforts, he has not shown signs of transformation into Adam, and is told by Ruki that the Mukamis will never turn into Adam due to their inferior blood.

This is a daily story where Yui was pursued by a classmate, and Yuma makes her say that she is his TOY in front of the poor guy holy lol

Yuma is so upset that he can’t become Adam and shuts himself in. Ruki lures him out into the open by … hitting on Yui? Lol well it worked didn’t it?!

Ruki: … You finally came out of your room. Are you done throwing your tantrum?

Yuma’s temper tantrum does not stop. He starts destroying plants in the garden out of frustration. Yui yells at him to stop. Yuma orders Yui to get on her knees and know her place. Yui yells at him that she has her sense of purpose and pride and is not his toy. OK I really didn’t get the point of writing this part in? Like we already know the premise of this game. Yui had so many opportunities to show spunk and this is not one of them. I’m pretty sure if this story flowed normally Yui would have RIP’ed right then and there… Plus, it doesn’t contribute anything to the plot… She could sob and obey and it would be not OOC. Anyways, Yui collects Yuma’s roses and brings them to her room to grow.

Eventually, Yuma finds out. Yui tells Yuma that he at one point told her that he wouldn’t give up (being Adam) because you never know unless you try. This somehow inspires her (despite him mocking her all the time for studying to be a Sister but ok) so she wants to share this hope with Yuma. Yuma becomes moved and shares an embrace with Yui… Yeah get me out of this route.

Yuma and Yui visit the Sakamakis to talk to Shu. However, Reiji blocks their path and denies them the meeting. On their way back, Yuma notes that the sunset makes the sky look like it’s burning. He says he can’t pinpoint why, but he feels scared and does not like fire.

Reiji with the roast of the century [he calls Yui the “Judas” of his home]

The ending is pretty anticlimactic as there wasn’t really a conflict to resolve in this route per se. Yuma tells Yui about the whole Adam Eve business, and how Adam is the one selected by her. Yui then tells Yuma if this were the case, then he probably has a chance.

We get a flashback of the Mukami children shortly after being granted immortality as vampires by Karlheinz. Yuma asks how he could repay Karlheinz the favour. Karlheinz replied that they would make him very happy by “becoming Adam” and being a full-fledged vampire.

Vampire End:

Yuma proposes to Yui. Ruki jumps in and goes like whaaa but you can’t become Adam. Karlheinz appears in Reinhart’s form and blesses their union, saying “what’s the problem?”

My god this CG is so wholesome. In the end Yuma whispers his vows in your ear too. Dreamy.

After story: One year after the wedding. Yuma and Yui throw a garden party for the rest of the Mukami brother and Reinhart as celebration of their anniversary. Yuma plants roses that bloomed for Yui and confesses his love, saying he wants to give her 999 roses one day.

Brute End: Yuma succumbs to his PTSD of his organization and Boss’ deaths. They call him a traitor in his dreams and breaks him mentally. Now even Ruki has to call Yuma “Bear”. This part is implied, but he likely poisoned/killed and preserved? Yui so that she wouldn’t leave him and is forever in a vegetative state.

Manservant End: Yuma does not give up on being Adam. Reiji finds Yuma and tells him about his past as Edgar with Shu. Yuma concludes that if he sucks all of Yui’s blood she will have none left for Shu or the Sakamakis. He kills Yui then burns the entire Mukami house down, implying both have died in the process. Reiji is seen laughing outside the fire in the end.

MUKAMI KOU (CV: Kimura Ryouhei)

This route has so many charms. I am officially a Kou fan after it! First of all, the BGM is very catchy and electronic. Second, Kou has the most explosive prologue of all 10 routes. Third, Kimura voicing blondes lol. The writer used “show, not tell” with their writing Kou’s inferiority complex and way of viewing the world as transactional: everything comes with its price. He acts all cheerful and nice but he detests being disobeyed, and will show his cold, ruthless side very quickly if Yui crosses him.

Initially, we learn little about Kou’s past other than he lived in the sewer like a rat and was detested by everyone. In present time, Kou comes into Yui’s room with a bouquet of flowers. He acts cheerful, asks Yui about her day, to the point Yui and us the audience wonder if Kou is just a nice ordinary human boy. Yui accepts his flowers; Kou then tells her he wants to suck on her blood. Yui hesitates; this flips a switch in Kou.

Kou: You gotta do something. Doesn’t this whole world operate on “give” and “take”?

He demands Yui return the flowers to him and stomps on them in front of her, destroying the petals. He then sucks her blood on the flower petals. Ruki passes by and tells Kou to cut it out, as Yui’s room door is open and everyone can hear what is going on. Ruki also tells Yui that he would not cross Kou if he were her. My description here is not doing any justice because Kimura’s voice acting and the music made the scene chilling and sends a thrill down your spine when going through it. I’m in…

The routine stories also pack a flavourful punch to them. In one of them, Kou asks Yui to sing him a bedtime song. Yui sings a song that mothers sing to their children, something something parental love, and that triggers Kou lol. Learn your audience… In another story, Kou bluffs about a cheap doll that Yui accidentally broken, and makes her role-play as his stationary doll where he does lewd things to her.

One day, Kou asks Yui if there’s anything she desires. Yui replied there isn’t really anything that she wants. Kou gets upset and throws her onto the balcony where it is freezing, to the point Yui gets the flu. He tells Yui he hates people like her who have been spoiled and grown up in love. Because they grew up with everything and take things for granted, they reply they want “nothing” even though they are the greediest people. He then vows to take everything from her and those like her.

Kou: Those who say they “desire nothing” often have everything

Yui fixes a button that fell off Kou’s shirt one day. He pushes her onto the ground? bed? to thank her. Yui is like ??? However, this is the way Kou was conditioned to grow up. Everyone is after money or pleasure; and this is the easiest way to go even with someone after they do something for him.

Ok how is Kou so skinny in the settings but I could really do with those arms…

Subaru also appears as the rival but he’s kind of irrelevant in this route. Honestly, in all Mukami routes except Ruki the Sakamakis just kind of fucked off in their own corner. Kou gets jealous enough to corner Yui in the girls’ washroom, where he asks her a puzzling question: what does love feel like? He sucks Yui’s blood to the point she faints.

Kou: What is the feeling of “affection”? Does it feel good? Is it different from “love”?

Yui wakes up in the school infirmary with Kou beside her. Kou tells her to stop acting like a “virgin” because he’s sure the Sakamakis have “tainted” her. He then goes on about his value system, how nothing cannot be bought with money. He says if he offers Yui enough money, she would get on her knees and do anything he wanted. Yui retorts that there are many things money cannot buy, which makes Kou annoyed again. He wonders to himself if Yui is acting innocent because she is Eve, and whether all his problems would be solved if he became Adam… but not before we are taken to more flashbacks.

In the flashback, Kou mentioned his life was better than his sewer days. However, he is losing vision in his right eye. We are then taken further back where a military official finds Kou, seems to be interested by his beautiful appearance, and takes him to an orphanage. We get a short story where Kou tries to have sexy time with Yui or at least teases her, but Yui is a mood killer and continues to be the pure uwu girl she is. We get more flashbacks where Kou is cleaned, fed, and then auctioned to the aristocrats to be physically abused and used as a toy and outlet. A sentence flashed at the back of Kou’s brain, nothing in this world comes without a price.

We come back to the present. The Mukami brothers are having a meeting where they are dissatisfied with how Kou has not made process of awakening as Adam. Yui accidentally hears it. She goes to the bathroom to shower, but is hugged from behind from a naked Kou. Kou reveals to Yui the various scars on his body. He tells her that in this world there are plenty of people who find imperfect objects more beautiful. Yui feels horrible about seeing those scars on Kou. Kou doesn’t understand why Yui is sad on his behalf because he’s never had anyone show him empathy before.

Kou: Don’t look so sad. You’re not the one feeling the pain. Why do you look like you’re about to cry?

Kou then does a fucked up thing where he declares his “relationship” with Yui at school in front of his fangirls, just so he can see her get bullied by these fangirls and beg for his help. Despite this, Yui fixes his button (again?) and we get a blushy boi

I don’t have a blushing closeup with both of his eyes open… so this is the best we’ve got.

Subaru appears again and wants Yui to go home with him. Kou has already caught feelings for Yui at this point, but won’t acknowledge it. In this route we see the Sakamaki trying to set up for the Mukami in a way?? Subaru sucks on Yui’s blood in front of her and forces Kou to face his emotions towards her.

Kou: Fine, I am obsessed about Yui. I’ll admit that.

Earlier Kou told Yui he likes vongole bianco (damn I’m not a clam person or I’d try to make it in Kou’s honour). So all she makes for the Mukamis is endless pasta lmao. The brothers lose it but Kou is thriving, and beams about Yui making pasta for him for the rest of his eternal vampire life.

Yuma: Kou you did this right! What is this p a s t a h e l l?

Yui is shopping outside or something until she runs into Kou covered in blood. Kou didn’t do anything. However, a terrible traffic accident happened in front of him where the mother died protecting her child. Kou has a difficult time understanding this, because again, nobody has protected or cared about him like this before. It still bothers him that he doesn’t know what “like” or “love” is. He kabedons Yui and says some pretty unhinged stuff like demanding her to die for him to show her love for him. The CG is mid so I am not posting lol.

Kou finds Yui reading a romance novel in the living room. He starts telling her his own story. Yui can’t take it and starts crying. In a flashback, little Kou, unable to take the abuse, used a fork to sever his right eye, thinking if he became “imperfect”, the aristocrats would grow bored of him and move onto another target. He was very, very wrong. He then met little Ruki, who told him of their plan to escape, and invited Kou to join.

We also get a flashback where Karlheinz gives Kou his right eye as a gift. The eye has a function of seeing people’s real emotions. However, despite this, Kou does not understand what love is. Ruki has already come to the realization that the Mukamis were never originally intended to become Adam, but Kou will not give up. He desperately begs Yui to “love” him, even though he has no idea what that entails.

Kou: As long as Yui loves me… I can become Adam.

Yui goes to the garden and finds Kou with a spider who has captured a butterfly. Yui pleads with Kou to let the butterfly go. Kou laughs and crushes both the spider and the butterfly, and tells Yui he is sick of her acting holier than thou this whole time. Who said the butterfly’s life was above the spider’s?

In another scene, Kou sucks on another girl’s blood in front of Yui. Yui becomes desperate and begs Kou to only use her blood. Kou concludes that he cannot live without Yui’s blood, as everyone else’s tasted bad, then said he only loves Yui, commenting to himself that woman are so easy to please – all he needed to do was claim exclusivity and whisper sweet nothings.

Subaru comes for Yui again. Kou tells him that Yui belongs to him, and Subaru just leaves the two alone I guess lmao. Kou tells Yui to not talk to other guys if she “loves” him so much.

Kou continues to find the meaning of love, including releasing gas from the stove then telling Yui to leave while he dies… as a way to test their love. Ruki finally has enough now that Eve’s life is in danger and locks Kou in the basement dungeon. He tells Yui to never meet with Kou again. Yui is also a crazy bitch in this route so ofc she finds Kou in the dungeon. She then holds up a knife to her neck saying since Kou’s tested her love so many times, it’s about time that she tests Kou’s love… Kou takes Yui’s blade with his hand and bleeds profusely. He tells her that “it hurts” before we are taken to one more flashback.

People from the orphanage are running after the four escaped children, shooting bullets and shouting to “especially not let the blonde get away”. The children get shot including Kou. Karlheinz approaches him before his death and asks if he wants an eternal life.

Kou: (… I don’t, want to die. I don’t want to die!!!)

Yui begs Ruki again to release Kou, who ofc refuses. Yui finds rose petals in the residence and follows them to find Kou, who holds her in a tight embrace and tells her that he’s afraid to read her emotions at this moment.

Kou’s right eye turns red when reading emotions or being emotional himself.

Vampire End: Kou comes to terms with that he physically cannot become Adam but asks Yui to elope with him anyway, who agrees. Kou confronts Ruki before their departure, and takes out his right eye so that he doesn’t owe Karlheinz as much (he still owes him his life…). Ruki sees Kou’s resolve and tells him that he can leave. Obviously Ruki offering to lie about Kou’s death isn’t going to deceive Karlheinz. He watches from a distance and muses that Eve has chosen an unexpected target…

Karlheinz: Maybe, just maybe, you also have what it takes to become Adam, Kou…

Kou flies into the sky with Yui. The two enjoy the beautiful scenery under the moonlight.

Kou: I love you, Yui. No matter people say, I will always love you no matter what.

After story: Kou makes Yui a promise ring and wears it on her finger for her birthday.

GET YOURSELF A MAN WHO LOOKS AT YOU LIKE THIS [it will never happen sob.gif]

Brute End: Kou gets a little too extreme and accidentally kills Yui. He begs daddy Karlheinz to bring her back. Karlheinz says no can do, unless you offer not one, but both your eyes.

Karlheinz: However, [taking out your right eye] isn’t enough. If you truly want to save her, then I demand your remaining eye, Kou.

So Kou is now fully blind. Karlheinz honours his end of the bargain and brings Yui back.

Kou: Please, Yui… Talk to me. Because when I don’t hear your voice, I don’t even know if you are here anymore…

However, is this really the “love” Karlheinz hoped for?

Karlheinz: Is this also a form of love? Kou, when you become Adam, you will know the answer…

Manservant End: Yui becomes Kou’s slave and basically an Azusa begging Kou to abuse her. Kou becomes disgusted and seeks comfort from his fangirls, deciding that if what Yui is offering to him is love, then he is better off without it. However, he doesn’t clearly reject Yui and keeps leading her on. So Yui makes Kou her personal… manservant.

Yui: “If you loved me, you wouldn’t have been talking to other guys” you told me that before, right?

MUKAMI RUKI (CV: Sakurai Takahiro)

Originally, I super looked forward to this route, particularly because Sakurai is the first otome seiyuu I’ve ever come across. My first otome game is Starry Sky in Spring with Midorikawa/Tomoe as my first LI. However, I didn’t get into J-games until Princess Maker 4 where Sakurai voiced the human prince (aka my first ending, my goodness I was looking up walkthroughs left and right and getting so sweaty triggering his events lmao). Sakurai’s voice is always coldish and satisfying to listen to, but the story was really bland so it ended up being a meh at best :/

Ruki is the most refined out of the Mukamis because he used to be nobility. In fact, he was a spoiled little brat who treated the less fortunate very poorly. We come back to the present time where Yui tries to do a nice gesture for Ruki honestly more so she can survive and not piss him off. Of course this is Diabolik Lovers so she steps on a landmine and Ruki tells her to not show him sympathy or pity, commenting that “humans are cunning creatures”.

That expression… goes straight into an R18 game

Ruki tells Yui to sleep in his room (damn bro just get her to sleep in your bed while you’re at it) so he can keep watch on her, until he becomes Adam. The mundane events are pretty bland so I don’t really wanna go over them here.

Eventually Yui sees an old photo of what looks like a little human Ruki with his parents. The family looked pretty happy. I mean, Ruki literally kept Yui captive in his room, what did he expect of her, she was going to look around.

Ruki: You’re plotting on running away from me, aren’t you. Humans like you are all born to betray others.

Ayato has surprisingly a huge presence in this route, as he seems to be awakening into Adam. He hunts the scent of Yui’s blood, leading him to her and Ruki. Double blessing for the otome’s ears youknowwhatimsaying… More collabs like this please…

Ayato: I knew you’d be here, chichinashi.

Ruki forces Yui to take twelfth grade classes with him because he is possessive and all that. In history class, the teacher talks about the treatment of orphans in this country. This seems to touch upon something within Ruki, but wouldn’t share with Yui. Meanwhile, Ayato corners Yui in the girls’ bathroom and sucks on her blood. Ruki then “punishes” Yui for it by sucking on her blood too, god damn what is Yui’s hemoglobin count at this point?

At night, Yui hears Ruki’s sleep talk, calling out for his parents. When Ruki wakes up, he asks Yui what her dad was like. Yui being the naive girl she is, replies her dad is this great person who loves her and all that. Ruki laughs his ass off in front of her and points out that Seiji sold her to the Sakamakis and doesn’t even bother visiting her once. Yui still refuses to believe that Seiji was evil. Two flashbacks are shown here. One, Ruki’s father disappears (later found to be dead), his family in shambles, and his mother having left the estate. Two, Yui finds a four-leaved clover with Seiji and tells him she is lucky to have him as her father.

Back to present time, Yui accidentally sees a naked Ruki, who has two large scars on his back. Ruki appears irritated and tells Yui to forget what she saw.

Ruki continues to display his obsession of treating Yui like his “livestock”, trying to dehumanize her. Yet on the other hand, he distrusts human nature and has a strong hatred for the human race as a whole.

Ruki: People who grew up loved and blissfully ignorant especially get on my nerves. People like you.

Yui adopts an orphaned kitty. However, Ruki basically kills the kitty by “making its soul sleep forever.” He tells Yui that the moment the kitten was adopted, it has lost its freedom for the rest of its life, and what Yui thinks is mercy may be hell for the kitten. Yui starts crying, feeling guilty for what she did. She says but if the kitty lived, at least there would be hope. If she left it alone it would have died. Ruki wonders if she thinks this way because she is “Eve”, someone who is supposed to represent all the good qualities and emotions in this world.

Ruki: Are you saying that to live without freedom and to suffer… is better than death?

We see more flashback of how Ruki became an orphan and bullied by the other orphanage kids because they were jelly he was a noble. Ruki in perhaps a bit of a chuunibyou moment vows to take revenge on the entire world. Ok lil bro did you forget how you treated those in need when you were rich and fortunate. I didn’t have that much sympathy for child Ruki. There’s also a choking CG that I’m not posting because the art was mid.

Ruki shuts Yui into the dungeon out of fear Ayato will find her.

Ruki: You will stay here. Your blood belongs to me. You will wait for me to bestow that onto you every day… Awake or sleep, you will only think about me.
Ruki: I will become Adam. I will not give Eve… give you up to anyone.

At this point Ruki realizes he is not destined to be Adam. Unlike the other routes because he is the LI, he also becomes delulu and thinks he can still become Adam. While Yui is left to rot in the dungeon, Reinhart appears and lets Yui see Ruki’s past of how he got those “wings” – by the orphanage people applying hot iron onto his back as a means of punishment for attempting to run, branding him like livestock. Yui confronts Ruki who still makes excuses and gaslights her.

Yui begs Ruki to let her out of the basement. She will do whatever he says. Ruki feels bad and lets her go back to living in his room. However, this works to Ayato’s advantage, who overpowers Ruki and takes Yui for himself. Before Ayato takes off with Yui, Ruki asks Ayato if he truly loves her. Ayato is like wtf kind of question is that, I’m here for her blood. He sets the Mukami household on fire and leaves with Yui.

At the Sakamaki household, Yui is unhappy. Reinhart visits again and asks Yui what she thinks love is.

Reinhart: Infatuation is where you desire something from your partner, while love is when you want to give something to your partner. This is what people say at least.

Ruki made it out of that fire alive and sneaks into the Sakamaki garden Romeo & Juliet style. He meets with Yui, tells her about the entire Eden Project, and to pick one of the six Sakamakis and fulfill Karlheinz’s wish. For he can never be Adam. He bids her farewell. Yui finds herself crying and saying she knows why.

Vampire End: Yui holds out for Ruki which moves Reinhart/Karlheinz. He allows Ruki to meet her again. Ruki tells Yui he plans on betraying the being he viewed as his God all this time; things do go full circle. He talks about him being the snake that tempted Eve to eat the forbidden fruit. They kiss under the dawn however, Ruki’s proportions were kind of weird so not including here :/

Reinhart: Eve didn’t choose an Adam in the end. Well… maybe you are the real Adam after all, Ruki.
Ruki: I plan to betray Him.

After Story: Yui and Ruki live on their own for a while, until Ruki receives a letter/warning from Reinhart. They return to the Mukami household and finds the house good as new with the remaining three brothers still living there, so they move back. Karlheinz shows up. The two try to protect each other in front of him. Karlheinz of course leaves them alone so it’s a happily ever after. In the end, Yui tells Ruki she loves him as Yui, not Eve.

Yui: I also love Ruki-kun!

Brute End: Ruki goes destruction mode and exterminated the Sakamaki family then locks Yui in the dungeon and breaks her. Karlheinz arrives and sets everything on fire, commenting they are acting like living corpses, neither human nor vampire.

Yui: Fufu, I wonder who is broken really? Me? Or you?

Manservant End: Honestly kind of a similar ending to Brute. Ruki basically declares he is going to take Yui from Ayato/the Sakamakis at school and gets killed by Reinhart, taking Yui with him in the process. The voice acting though… 😩

FINAL THOUGHTS

Wow I made it to the end after almost 2 months. Way longer than what I originally planned. Too many real life things including work and personal life. But we are here folks. It was an enjoyable run. This game is good especially when played a little bit drunk. It’s an opportunity to date “bad guys” which is probably what Rejet had in mind when they developed this game. I am not necessarily a do-M but I found this a new experience that I will never seek out IRL.

My tier list. Blonde bias is strong. I did not expect Kou to sneak up on me like that but he has such a draw on me. I was also pleasantly surprised by Reiji route’s writing even though I wasn’t a huge fan of the character.

I will certainly play all Switch ported titles, including Chaos Lineage, as well as the upcoming combined port of Dark Fate & Vandead Carnival. But maybe next Halloween. Until next time.
